about alion tech studio

alion tech studio is an independent software engineering studio run by Alex I. We design and build secure mobile applications, fast and accessible websites, hardened server configurations, and scalable cloud systems. We are deliberately small: a focused practice rather than an agency, which lets us care about the details that larger shops tend to skip.

This page explains who we are, what we believe, and how we work — so that clients, readers, and partners can understand the people and principles behind the projects and the articles we publish.

who runs the studio

The studio is founded and run by Alex I, an independent software engineer with over a decade of hands-on experience across mobile apps, backend systems, frontend development, cloud infrastructure, and application security. He has shipped native iOS and Android applications used in production, designed backend APIs serving high-traffic workloads, and configured cloud infrastructure on AWS and GCP for teams at various stages of growth. Alex writes the articles in the insights section and takes on consulting work in the same areas. You can read a full background on the author page.

our story

The studio grew out of over a decade of hands-on engineering work across startups, product teams, and independent projects. The same problems kept appearing regardless of the organisation's size: pages that were fast in development and slow in production; security headers added as an afterthought after a vulnerability report; mobile apps that worked on the developer's device but not on older hardware; cloud bills that grew quietly until someone noticed. Accessibility was almost always treated as optional until a user or a legal requirement made it urgent.

alion tech studio was started to approach engineering differently — to treat performance, security, and usability as requirements that are designed in from the first commit, not bolted on at the end. The writing reflects the same philosophy: every article covers the mechanism behind a problem, not just a checklist, because understanding the mechanism is what lets you handle the cases the checklist does not cover.

We take on a limited amount of client work — mobile apps, websites, server configurations, and cloud architecture — alongside the writing. In every case, the goal is the same: to leave behind systems that are fast, safe, maintainable, and genuinely pleasant to use.

what we believe

A few principles guide everything we ship:

⚡

performance is a feature

Speed is not a luxury; it is the experience. We set performance budgets early, measure Core Web Vitals continuously, and refuse to let a page get slow by accident.

🔒

security by default

We design with the OWASP Top 10 in mind, apply least-privilege access, encrypt sensitive data, and harden headers and infrastructure from day one.

♿

accessible to everyone

An interface only works if everyone can use it. We build with semantic HTML, keyboard support, and sufficient contrast as baseline requirements.

✎

clarity over cleverness

We favour readable code, plain documentation, and simple architectures that the next engineer — or the client's own team — can confidently maintain.

how we work

We keep our process transparent and lightweight. Most engagements move through four phases:

  • discovery. We start by understanding the problem, the users, and the constraints — budget, timeline, and the realities of your existing systems — before writing a line of code.
  • design & architecture. We agree on the shape of the solution: the user flows, the data model, the infrastructure, and the trade-offs involved. You see the plan before we build it.
  • build & iterate. We ship in small, reviewable increments, with regular check-ins so there are no surprises and you can steer as the work takes shape.
  • launch & support. We handle deployment, monitoring, and the unglamorous hardening that keeps a system healthy after release — and we document everything we hand over.

what we work on

Our day-to-day work spans four disciplines: modern websites built on contemporary frontend frameworks; native and cross-platform mobile apps for iOS and Android; tuned, containerised server configurations; and scalable cloud architectures on providers such as AWS and Google Cloud. You can read more about each on our services section.

about our insights

Alongside client work, we publish technical articles in our insights section. These are written by the engineers who do the work, drawn from real projects, and meant to be genuinely useful — covering topics like web performance, accessibility, security headers, and cloud architecture. We write them to share what we have learned and to think more carefully about our own craft.

get in touch

If you have a project in mind, a question about something we have written, or simply want to talk shop, we would be glad to hear from you. You can reach the team directly at support@aliontechstudio.com.
